(Port) Wine of the month Dezember 2023: Vor. Taylors oder Warre Vintage Port 1927

Back in the days in the UK, the entrance fee for the Christmas tasting was to bring a peculiar bottle or one where the content is not confirmed. On the capsule of my contribution this year it said: “Fearon Block Bridges (The importer and bottler) – Port 1927. Well whatever they bottled from 1927 it is all excellent. All bigger (and many smaller) houses knew exactly what they were doing when they bottles this Vintage. With the help from knowledgeable friends the house was identified to be either Warre or Taylor: Medium red color. Complex and balanced bouquet with a very precise and clean approach: Coffee, tobacco and chocolate, floral notes in the background. Perfectly supporting acidity in the palate, some herbal and eucalyptus hints, then chocolate and tobacco. A hint of honey. Long and balanced aftertaste. Very close to perfection. 19/20
